Architectural Illustrations (Gouache)
A small selection of traditional media architectural illustrations
Please note: while this is not recent work, the skills involved are very much available today and Lynne is interested in this kind of freelance illustration assignment – whether traditional or digital.

- Mixed - including gouache paint and artists pastels on illustration board
- Background:
- After leaving art school, Lynne spent the initial part of her career specialising in architectural illustration. She worked in-house for a multi-disciplinary architects for a number of years, continuously producing illustrations one after the other, gaining skills never lost.

This visual was completed in less than two days. (Approx A1 size)
- Process:
- Illustrations were hand drawn on illustration board using traditional geometric perspective projection. Referring to architects technical plans and elevations, and without the aid of 3D/CAD software, the whole composition was established in pencil. Using traditional media, most often gouache paint and artists pastels (skies) the A2-A0 sized illustrations were completed under competitive bid pressures often while architects were still developing the designs.

- The visualizer worked within an open-plan architectural design studio alongside teams of architects, architectural technicians, interior designers and engineers for over 10 years. Initially employed to produce technical illustrations for inclusion in competitive bid documents, her skills were soon applied to the whole presentation for high value contracts.
- Training:
- Philip Crowe, a leading visualiser and key figure in the Society Of Architectural And Industrial Illustrators at the time, was contracted to mentor Lynne when first employed.
- Notes:
- Mostly utilitarian buildings, they were nevertheless often large high value contracts and the illustrations were felt to be a competitive edge. Many of the more distinct project illustrations were presented to the clients before Lynne was able to secure a copy (in a pre-digital age), much to her lament now.
